Ashmore Estates is located in Rural Ashmore Illinois. This massive brick building began construction in May 1916. For the first 40 years of it's life the building served as the Coles County poor farm , or almshouse as it was known.
In 1959 the property was sold to the Ashmore Estates, Inc. and became a private psychiatric hospital. The hospital suffered from financial burdens from the start and was later charged in 1979 by the Dept. of Public Health with multiple safety violations. The building was allowed to keep operating and served as a home for mentally and developmentally disabled until it finally closed its doors in 1987.
After Ashmore Estates closed its doors in 1987 the building sat vacant until 2006. The building was often broken into and used as a local party spot for teenagers. There has also been rumors that satanic rituals and other sorts of summonings had happened in the building. In 2006 the building was purchased and repaired to serve as a haunted house.
Since then many paranormal teams have investigated the property. Ashmore Estates was recently featured on the show Ghost Adventures and has in the past been featured on other shows such as American Horror and the Booth Brother's production Soul Catcher.
The building is still open today and can be reserved for investigations or visited at Halloween time for the haunted house. For more information on Ashmore Estates visit their official web site at www.ashmoreestates.net
